Diplomatico

Diplomático Rum is an award-winning rum from Venezuela. It’s produced at the Distilerías Unidas S.A. (DUSA) distillery, close to the Andes, which has been making rum since the late 1950s. The brand is inspired by Don Juancho Nieto Melendez, a legendary Venezuelan from the 18th century who was passionate about distillation and amassed an enviable collection of spirits. His portrait appears on the bottles. 

The distillery benefits from quality local ingredients, including pure water from the nearby mountains and sugar cane grown in the region. Diplomático rums are made using copper pot stills, column stills, and batch kettle stills. This results in a variety of styles – from light to full-bodied. Maturation takes place in American oak casks, a process that helps impart added depth of flavour. 

Diplomático Reserva Exclusiva is the brand’s flagship rum. It’s a combination of pot still and light rum, and has been aged for 12 years. It has deliciously sweet notes of toffee, vanilla, and chocolate. The range also includes the Diplomático Mantuano, an eight year old expression that’s perfect for cocktails; Diplomático Planas, a six year old white rum; and Diplomático Ambassador, a super-premium rum that’s been finished in Pedro Ximénez sherry casks.
