Just like Scotland and Ireland, Wales has a long history with whisky. In fact, the first evidence of whisky distilling in the country dates all the way back to the 4^th century. However, the number of Welsh whisky distilleries dwindled in the mid-20^th century.

Fortunately for whisky lovers, there was a revival for the Welsh variety of the drink in the 1990s. And it looks set to succeed even further in the coming years, with Aber Falls releasing their first whisky variety as recently as 2021.

Today, there are a number of popular Welsh whisky brands to choose from. Penderyn is a particularly popular Welsh whisky brand which produces fine single malts.
