Here we have a delicious small batch whiskey from County Down in Northern Ireland. This blend from Hinch is a combination of malt and grain whiskies that have been matured for 3-4 years exclusively in ex-bourbon casks. It’s wonderfully smooth and drinkable, with a sweet and creamy character. There are lovely notes of vanilla, caramel and nuts, accompanied by citrus and dried fruit. A classic Irish whiskey that’s a real crowd-pleaser.

Tasting Notes

Nose

Orange marmalade, dried apricot, creamy malt and earthy vanilla pod with buttered toast.

Palate

Creamy vanilla, pancakes and maple syrup, floral honey, dried fruit, fresh canteloupe and lively citrus.

Finish

Chocolate covered almond, vanilla shortbread and more honey.

A Word About Hinch

Hinch is a relatively new Irish whiskey distillery near the town of Ballynahinch in Northern Ireland - located in the grounds of the Killaney Estate. Founded in 2016, by Dr Terry Cross OBE, they produced their first new make spirit in 2021, with the first official whiskey planned to be released in 2014. They also make Ninth Wave Gin.

As a young distillery, Hinch’s output is sourced externally, before being matured at their base in County Down. Their range includes blend and single malts, including five and 10 year old expressions. The entry level release is an approachable bourbon cask finished blend, but those looking for something smokier might enjoy the Hinch Peated Single Malt.
